There is a good deal of reason behind the saying that readers of epic fantasy series are: patient - they are left in suspense between each volume, persistent - they reread or at least review the previous books when a new installment comes out and mentally agile - they follow a host of characters through a myriad of subplots.
This is especially true for George RR Martin’s “Song of Ice and Fire“. The amount of time readers have been waiting for the next book is indeed epic, as for the story, if it wasn’t for the index of houses and characters, half of us would have difficult time distinguishing Florents from Boltons.
With imminent release of “A Dance With Dragons” I’ve been hearing more and more grunts and sighs. Close to four years have passed since the release of “A Feast for Crows”. Some of the fans are not as excited as most for one reason, they don’t remember much from the series and they definitely don’t have the time to read it again.
I effort to help them and inspired by similar project being done for Robert Jordan’s “Wheel of Time” I decided to create a blog where SoIaF fans could refresh their memory of the series without actually going through the thousands of pages of text again.
And lets make it absolutely clear here, I’m not advising against reading the books again. Quite opposite, I’m encouraging everyone to come back to them! Sometimes though it’s not possible to re-read the series just as the new book is coming out.
For those of us that can’t for one reason or another spend weeks buried nose deep in the books, this website should deliver a synopsis of the story, just enough for you to not feel lost when the Dance arrives at your door.
